New Residents

Help us write the next chapter of 29’s legacy, and join the BHCT’s inaugural cohort of residents!

Applicants considered on a rolling basis.

Rooms available November 1, 2024.

Application Process

Step 1: Complete our Online Application Form.

This application includes a link to our Occupancy and Community Agreements for your review. This document includes an Occupancy Agreement (pseudo-lease) between the BHCT and current and prospective Residents (individually) and a set of Community Agreements between the BHCT’s Directors and Officers (Board) and current and prospective Residents (corporately). Relevant addendums, including the rates for each room and your portion of common spaces are included at the end of the document.

Step 2: Screening Call

We will confirm receipt of your application and a Board Member will be assigned to follow up with you via telephone. This will be a brief 10-15 minute call and will include an opportunity for you to ask us some questions as well.

Step 3: Room/Housemate Reference

In your application, please include the name and phone number of a current or prior roommate or housemate. We will call your provided references and ask them a few brief questions.

Step 4: Interview

If the Screening Call and Roommate Reference go well, we will schedule an in person interview and tour at 29 with some current residents.

Zoom interviews available upon request.

Interviews are ideally scheduled with 1 board member and 1 house alumni. Accepted applicants and/or current residents may be included in the interview process if applicable/available.

Please feel free to come with your own questions.

Step 5: Determinations

The House Committee will review all applicants, including your online application form, summaries of your screening call, roommate reference, and interview, and the recommendation of the interviewers. All determinations will be communicated directly with the applicant in a timely manner.

Determinations will be based on:

Equal Opportunity

The BHCT is committed to providing equal housing opportunities to all individuals, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all residents.

All applications will be considered based on their merit and in accordance with federal, state, or local laws

If you require reasonable accommodation in order to complete this application or to participate in the application process, please contact us at 29MonadnockSt@gmail.com. We are committed to ensuring that all individuals have equal access to housing opportunities within our community!

Additional Info/FAQs

Cost: We offer rents between $500 and $850, rents include your private room AND your portion of the common areas, including the kitchen, laundry, yard, dining room, sitting rooms, etc (see rates for each room)

Current Availability: We have 5-6 rooms available October 1, 2024. There is, however, still some ongoing work the Board is engaged in at the house. There may be painting projects, inspections, and exterior work happening.

Furnished or Unfurnished? We have a significant amount of furniture throughout the house and can provide rooms furnished or unfurnished.

This is not a Rooming or Lodging House, a traditional SRO, or a Co-Op. Residents live together intentionally, to share resources, chores, their lives, and make a difference in our community! Residents rent a private room and share common spaces, and function cooperatively as a single-housekeeping unit. This is not a traditional landlord-tenant relationship.

Faith Disclaimer: The BHCT is NOT a faith-based organization, and does not engage in any religious proselytizing. The house was, however, historically an intentional christian community house and currently house-adjacent faith communities occasionally use the common spaces for meetings. Residents are NEVER required to participate in any faith related activities but should be comfortable living in community with others who openly practice their faith expressions. All applicants welcome, regardless of your faith or religion.
